Robert
Hall Birds - Robert Hall clothing stores (now defunct) used a family of
animated birds, reminiscent of an early black radio duo of Moran and Mack, to
advertise their wares in the 1950s. Featured characters included a Mommy bird
with a flower hat, Daddy bird with a straw hat and a Baby bird who whined
throughout the commercial. Suspended from a phone wire, the birds sang "Clothing
values are high. And the prices are low" The 20-second "Watch the Birdies"
commercial spot was created by Arkwright Advertising Agency in 1954. The black &
white bird characters were designed by Jack Zander.
TRIVIA NOTE: The Robert Hall Clothing Stores
also had a peppy advertising jingle that went like this:
"When the values go up,
up, up...and the prices go down, down down...Robert Hall this season will show
You the reason...Low Overhead, Low Overhead."
