Davros & the Daleks
- Recurring villains on the British sci-fi series
DOCTOR WHO/BBC/1963-89. The Daleks were created by Davros, a
physically-impaired scientist (injured in an explosion) from the
planet Skaro whose mad schemes included the elimination of a rival
race of Thals. To this end, he created a mobile army of robot
warriors called Daleks that resembled large salt & pepper shakers
on wheels.
Encased within their impregnable metal shells were
genetically altered beings called Kaleds (mutated by the centuries
of chemical and nuclear warfare between their former selves, the
Kaleds, and their race enemies, the Thals).

Unfortunately, like
Frankenstein's monster, Davros' creations became uncontrollable
and they soon began their conquest of the galaxy, enslaving or
destroying any life forms that stood in their way. Their most
popular phrase was a garbled "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"
Created
by writer Terry Nation, these mechanical monsters debuted on the
second DR. WHO adventure "The Dead Planet" in 1963 and later
appeared in the motion pictures Dr. Who and the Daleks
(1965) and Dr. Who: Invasion Earth 2150 (1966). They
returned to TV with the debut of the 2005 DOCTOR WHO series produced
by the BBC.
