 Big Giant Head - Name of an
(initially) unseen alien on the sci-fi comedy 3RD ROCK FROM THE
SUN/NBC/1996-2001. The series told the tale of four aliens who posed
incognito as humans to observe the people and customs of Earth. They
reported back their findings to a never seen but often spoken about
character known as "The Big Giant Head" who was first mentioned on
episode #8 "Body & Soul Dick."
This mysterious galactic overlord was both respected and feared by
the visiting aliens, (a.k.a. "the Solomon Family") headed by Dick
Solomon, (John Lithgow), a Physic Professor at a nearby college.
Harry Solomon (French Stewart) was the group's conduit for
communicating with the Big Giant Head. When a message arrives, Harry
stands erect like an antenna and shouts "INCOMING MESSAGE FROM
THE BIG GIANT HEAD!"
During the third season, the BGH later ordered Dick Solomon to dump his
earth girlfriend, Mary Albright (Jane Curtin), and marry BGH's niece, Janet (Roseanne Barr).
Luckily, Dick avoided that bullet.
In the fourth season, the BGH visited Earth to review the progress of
his fellow aliens. While here, he took the form of
William Shatner (of Star Trek fame). His first order was to
temporarily demote Dick Solomon, the group's leader and places Sally
(Kristin Johnson)
in charge.

While under the influence of his new corporeal form, which makes
him susceptible to all of earth's temptations and vices, the BGH
turns into a wild, alcoholic party animal and indulges in earth's
many delights. One of which was earthling Vicki Dubcek (Harry's
girlfriend) whom the BGH gets pregnant.
The BGH later reveals to Dick Solomon that he is his father (a
parody of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vedar in Star Wars). Upon
hearing the news,
Dick's companion Harry points out, "Well, your first name is
Dick, and your last name is Head."
The BGH eventually orders Dick Solomon and his
companions back to their home world, thus ending their exploratory
mission on earth, a.k.a. the 3rd Rock from the Sun.
