Toothy - First name of
a frontiersman on the western adventure SUGARFOOT/ABC/1957-60. Toothy Thompson (Jack
Elam) was described as "kinda spooky looking, always smilin'...a man
with a face people distrust." One of Toothy's friends was a law
student Tom Brewster (Will Hutchins) who got Toothy acquitted from a
murder charge.
TRIVIA NOTE: Born in Miami, Arizona on November
13, 1918, veteran character actor Jack Elam died on October 20, 2003
in Ashland, Oregon from congestive heart failure. Before his death,
Elam had been inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of
the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1994. In his early
career he played vicious killers and gangsters. In many of his later
roles, Elam sported a beard and played loveable old coot characters.
Other TV credits included the sitcoms STRUCK BY LIGHTNING (1979)
as the Frankenstein monster and on EASY STREET (1986-87) as Uncle
Alvin "Bully" Stevenson.
