Miami Vice Cars -
Detective James
"Sonny" Crockett (Don Johnson) appeared on the
police drama MIAMI VICE/NBC/1984-89. Working
undercover for Miami's vice-squad narcotics
division, Sonny was issued a fancy black Ferrari
365/GTB/4 Daytona Spyder sports car convertible
(model year 1968-1974) with beige
leather interior. The series car (Florida
license: ZAQ178) was actually a kit car with a
fiberglass body and Corvette chassis. In 1986,
on episode No. 45 "When Irish Eyes Are Crying"
while buying illegal munitions, Sonny asked the
gunrunners if the six-year-old explosives were
still potent. Picking up a shoulder rocket
launcher, the gunrunner aimed at Sonny's
$150,000 car and blew it to pieces.
Eventually his superiors reissued Sonny a
$135,000 Ferrari Testarossa (Florida license
plate: ATF00M). Red was the
standard color for that model (Testarossa is
Italian for "red-head") but Sonny's car was
painted white. It had a top speed of 183 m.p.h.
Sonny's partner, Detective Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs
(Philip Michael Thomas) drove a blue-gray 1963
Fleetwood Cadillac DeVille convertible.
Their fellow officers Det. Larry Zito (John Diehl) and
Det. Stan Switek (Michael Talbott) drove a 1960s
Ford Van surveillance vehicle called "The Bug
Van" (because it had a big bug on the roof).
