Johnny Olsen's Youngster's Hall of Fame -
This award was given during the "Kid's of the Week" segment on the variety
talent series KIDS AND COMPANY/DUM/1951-53. Hosted by a young Johnny "Come
on Down" Olsen, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored children who had
demonstrated great courage and determination. The winner was flown to the
show and presented with his/her award on-the-air. In its second year,
additional awards were given to children who had overcome handicaps or
performed amazing feats such as a boy who seized the steering wheel of a
school bus when the driver fainted; a child battling with muscular
dystrophy; and a recovering juvenile burn victim who was set on fire by a
gang of hoodlums. The program was sponsored by Red Goose Shoes.
