Golden Eagle Awards - Founded in 1970 by Ricardo Montalban,
this annual award ceremony recognizes outstanding achievements of
Latinos/Hispanics in the entertainment industry. Those organization
honors those in front of and behind the camera who, through their work, impact the community and
encourage the positive portrayal and image of Latinos in the
entertainment industry. The award (a golden eagle with
outspread wings) is a symbolic honor and not the product of a contest.
The Golden Eagle Awards ceremony is sponsored by Nosotros, a
non-profit organization dedicated to improve the image and ambitions
of those 27 MILLION persons of Spanish-speaking origin in the United
States. Nostros is Spanish for "Us."
Those in attendance at the first official meeting of Nosotros
included Desi Arnaz, Anthony Quinn, Ines Pedroza, Fernando Lamas,
Vikki Carr, Mario Machado, Tony De Marco, Henry Darrow, Richard
Hernandez, Linda Cristal, and many more. The first annual Nosotros
Golden Eagle Awards event was held at the Hollywood Bowl in August,
1970
