Music Awards - The MTV Cable Video
network created this annual award beginning in
1984 to honor the year's best musical videos.
The award trophy is a silver-plated American
astronaut holding a flag pole whose flag bears
the stylized logo of the MTV network. MTV was
launched by Warner Amex Satellite
Entertainment on August 1, 1981. The first
video aired on MTV was "Video Killed the Radio
Star," performed by the Buggles.
