Bears - Sensitive, loving, pastel-colored bears on the Saturday morning cartoon
THE CARE BEAR FAMILY/ABC/SYN/1986-90. The Care Bears live in the magical world
of Care-A-Lot located in the clouds. Using a telescope to investigate Earth, the
Care Bears look for sad little children and then travel down to help them
through their troubles.
The Care Bears consist of Bedtime Bear, Birthday Bear,
Cheer Bear, Friend Bear, Funshine Bear, Goodluck Bear, Tenderheart Bear, Wish
Bear and big Grumpy Bear (there's one in every bunch). Their secret weapon is
the Care Bear Stare, whose hypnotic focus melted the sadness out of the saddest
child.
Originally created as greeting card characters in 1981 by Those Characters in
Cleveland, Ohio, the Care Bear phenomenon spawned a line of toys and books as
well as the movies The Care Bears Movie (1985); Care Bears Movie II: A
New Generation (1986); The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland (1987);
a TV special The Care Bears' Nutcracker Suite (1988); and a line of
juvenile comic books by Marvel comics (Star Comics) in 1985.
