THE SCIENCE FICTION & FANTASY SERIES

A - B / C - H / I - O / Q - S / T - Z

I DREAM OF JENNIE/NBC/1965-70
[Narrator] "Once upon a time in a mythical place called Cape Kennedy, an astronaut named Tony Nelson went up on a space mission. The missile went up but something went wrong and they had to bring it down. Captain Nelson landed on an island in the South Pacific where he found a bottle - at least it looked like a bottle - but it didn't act like a bottle because in it...was a genie. Oh not your average every day genie but a beautiful genie, who could grant any wish. Captain Nelson was so grateful, he set Jeannie free, only she didn't want to be free, You how it is when you've been cooped up in a bottle for two thousand years. She wanted to have fun and she wanted to have it with Captain Nelson. So she followed him back to Coco Beach, a mythical town in a mythical state called Florida and there in this house the girl in the bottle played spin the astronaut." (from the original first year episodes)

THE IMMORTAL/ABC/1970-71

Opening narration from the sci-fi series The Immortal

[The sound of a heart beat over blowing desert winds]

Narrator: This man has a singular advantage over other men. Ben Richards is immune to every known disease including old age. Periodic transfusions of  his blood can give other men a second, a third lifetime, perhaps more.
Voice: FIND Ben Richards!
Voice:  The effects of the transfusion are only temporary. I must therefore control Ben Richards life...permanently!
Voice: He's the most valuable man in the world, but he's no good to me dead.
Voice:  His brother may have the same kind of blood. We've got to find him before Richards does!
Voice:  If you had million dollar blood, where would you hide?
Richards:   I didn't ask for this. I was a test driver. I liked the job. One day the doctor told me I had some kind of special blood. I don't understand it, but I know this. Everything they're offering...I don't want, I gotta live free!
Narrator: Ben Richards will live longer than anyone has ever lived, but a transfusion to the wrong man could make him a prisoner for all time. And so he runs from the hunters, the human hounds who would cage him.

[TRIVIA NOTE: The sci-fi series THE GOLDEN YEARS/CBS/1991 used a similar theme about an elderly janitor whose aging process suddenly reversed when a green metallic substance from a laboratory explosion altered his body's metabolism, turning him younger days after day. He was hunted by ruthless government agents who would cage him like a laboratory rat and exploit his uniqueness.]

THE IMMORTAL/SYN/2000-2001
[Voice of Lorenzo Lamas as Raphael Caine, the Immortal] "An oath sworn is an oath answered. An oath of a vengeance for a life taken, a path destroyed, a future threatened. Enemy of darkness. His battle eternal, he walks the Earth relentless. His mission: to hunt the messengers of evil and drive them back to Hell. Now the light of the Earth depends on the THE IMMORTAL."

INCREDIBLE HULK/1966
[Song Lyrics] "Doc Bruce Banner, Pelted by gamma rays, Turned into the Hulk. Ain't he unglamorous! Wreckin' the town With the power of a bull, Ain't no monster cause. Who is that lovable? It's ever lovin' Hulk!...HULK!! HULK!!"

THE INCREDIBLE HULK/CBS/1978-82

[Voices of Ted Cassidy as Narrator;
Bill Bixby as David Banner
]

Narrator: Dr. David Banner. Physician. Scientist. Searching for a way to tap into the hidden strengths that all humans have. Then an accidental overdose of gamma radiation alters his body chemistry.      And now, when David Banner grows angry or outraged, a startling        metamorphosis occurs. The creature is driven by rage, and pursued by an investigative reporter.
David Banner: Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
Narrator:  The creature is wanted for a murder he didn't commit. David Banner is believed to be dead, and he must let the world think that he is dead until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him.

Variation heard in the second pilot movie A Death in the Family that eventually changed into the familiar narration heard on the series.

Narrator: Dr. David Banner. Physician. Scientist. Searching for a way to tap
into the hidden strengths that all humans have. Then an accidental   overdose of gamma radiation interacts with his unique body      chemistry. And now, when David Banner grows angry or outraged, a startling metamorphosis occurs.  The creature is driven by rage, and pursued by an investigative reporter.
David Banner: Mr. McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.
Narrator:   An accidental explosion took the life of a fellow scientist and supposedly David Banner as well. The reporter thinks the creature was responsible.
McGee: I gave a description to all the law enforcement agencies. They’ve
got a warrant for murder out on it.
Narrator: A murder which David Banner can never prove that he or the creature didn’t commit. So he must let the world go on thinking that he is dead, until he can find a way to control the raging spirit that dwells within him.

THE INVADERS/ABC/1967-68

[Voice of William Conrad narrating pilot episode BEACHHEAD - Part 1]

Narrator:

[Voice of William Conrad narrating pilot episode BEACHHEAD - Part - 2]

Narrator:

"It began with a closed deserted diner and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. In the weeks to come, David Vincent would go back to how it all began...many times."

[Voice of William Conrad narrating pilot episode ending BEACHHEAD - Part 2]

Narrator:

"How does a nightmare end? Not here in forgotten town of Kinny. Perhaps, in Bakersfield. Perhaps, in some in undiscovered beachhead in another state or another continent. Perhaps, for David Vincent, it will never end."

[Regular opening begins with the whirling, high-pitched sound of a spacecraft landing followed by the voice of     William Woodson as Narrator]

Narrator: "THE INVADERS, a Quinn Martin Production starring Roy Thinnes as architect David Vincent.
Narrator: The Invaders...alien beings from a  dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it their world. David Vincent has seen them. For him it began one lost night on a lonely country road looking for a short-cut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the     landing of a craft from an another galaxy. Now David Vincent knows that the INVADERS are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun."

Here in my lab, working day and night, I've been prying into the mysteries of the future. Only a few hours ago, I felt that there were secrets that would never be known to us here on Earth. And then suddenly in the midst of a routine experiment, a strange and unpredictable event took place. Whether a mistake or the natural conclusion of the experiment, I cannot say. I can say that what happened is one of the most fantastic experiences in our modern day."

[Voice of Vincent Ventresca as Darien Fawkes] "There once was a story about a man who could turn invisible. I thought it was only a story...until it happened to me. Ok, so here's how it works. There's this stuff called Quicksilver that can bend light. Some scientist made it into a synthetic gland and that's where I came in. See, I was facing life in prison and they were looking for a human experiment. So, we made a deal. They put the gland in my brain; I walk free. The operation was a success but that's where everything started to go wrong."

Three-thousand years later, a young science teacher dug up this lost treasure and found she was heir to THE SECRETS OF ISIS. Now on this planet lived a young inventor by the name of Ernest P. Duckweather. He invented a television set unlike any ever known before. On this set he was able to tune in the planet Jupiter.
