Oliver
and Stanley - Two pet ducklings owned by little Richie Petrie (Larry
Mathews) on a 1962 episode of the classic sitcom THE DICK VAN DYKE
SHOW/CBS/1961-66. When Richie's father Rob (Dick Van Dyke)
temporarily brought home two baby ducks, his son Richie fell in love
with them and insisted that he keep them. The ducks were named
Oliver & Stanley after the comedy team of Oliver Hardy and Stanley
Laurel.
After Oliver died, Richie's
father convinced Richie that Oliver died because he was lonely for
his own kind and that it would be selfish to keep Stanley in
captivity. Together, they traveled to a local lake and released
Stanley into the wild where he belonged.
