Gertrude - Small rowboat seen on the rural sitcom THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW/CBS/1960-68. Gertrude was the property of Sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith), who lived in the town of Mayberry, North Carolina. He kept Gertrude along the side of Meyer's Lake for fishing trips. The boat is also seen in the program's opening sequence.  On episode No. 2 "The Manhunt" an escaped convict steals Sheriff Taylor boat and tries to row across Meyer's lake to escape the police. The convict learned about the boat from Andy who intentionally let slip the boat's location. Of course, within a few feet from the shore the boat began to leak and the police apprehended the drenched convict soon after.
