Baywatch Boats -
Yellow high speed rescue/patrol boats featured on the maritime
adventure
BAYWATCH/NBC/SYN/1989-2001. The Baywatch boat patrol is part of
the Los Angeles County Lifeguards who patrol more than 60 million
visitors who annually frequent the beaches of Southern California.
The Head Baywatch lifeguard is Lt. Mitch Bucannon (David Hasselhoff)
who coordinated all the male and female lifeguards employed by the
County. Each lifeguard must be excellent swimmers, and be able to
drive both land-based patrol vehicles and water-based vessels like
their high speed yellow patrol boats which were used to pick up
swimmers in distress or to thwart shark attacks, to name a few of
the many troubles faced on the beach on a daily basis.

TRIVIA NOTE: The first modern Baywatch boat was stationed off
Catalina Island in 1970. The current fleet, which operates from
eight
locations, has a crew of two lifeguards per vessel, serving as
boat operators and deckhands. See also - "Baywatch
