Ed Norton Shooting the Cuffs - On episodes of the sitcom THE HONEYMOONERS/CBS/1955-56, sewer worker Ed Norton (Art Carney) took forever to do things, like sign a letter or prepare to play the piano. He was always rasing his hands, shootng his cuffs, and doing other things that stretched out the simple act he needed to begin. This drove his friend Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason), who eventually shoved and shouted at Ed to get him moving along.

Art Carney revealed on the THE HONEYMOOONERS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION (2002) his character's delaying habits originated with his father when he was young. He remembered that his dad took forever to sign anything.
"That business of writing, and with the cuffs, shooting the cuffs. My father used to do that. I'd bring home my report card from school. And he'd sit down, adjust the light, shoot his cuffs a few times. And I would stand there saying to myself 'Pop would you hurry up and sign it'."
