 Scrolls of Ardra - Scrolled documents featured on episode
No. 87 "Devil's Due" (Stardate 44474.5) on the science fiction
series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/SYN/1987-94.
The Scrolls of Ardra contained the "Contract of
Ardra," an ancient legendary arrangement between the Devil
("Ardra") and
people of Ventax II (stored in the Atheneum Vaults) wherein the Ventaxians were given a
millennium of peace and prosperity in exchange for delivering
the population into slavery at the end of the thousand years.
According to legend, Ardra's return was to be heralded by
earthquakes and the shaking of cities.
In the year 2367, an attractive female con artist (Marta DuBois)
appeared to the Ventaxians in the form of Ardra and attempted to
convince them she was their legendary Devil, who had returned to
take possession of the planet and its people.
Ardra also claimed the right of possession of
all things orbiting the planet which included the crew of the
Starship Enterprise-D and it's Captain, Jean-Luc Picard
(Patrick Stewart).
In the end, however, Picard thwarted Ardra's plans
and revealed her as a thief and charlatan to her Ventaxian
victims.
