Medical Series - The half-hour medical anthology THE DOCTOR/NBC/1952-53 starring Warner Anderson as the Doctor featured TVs first recurring role of a physician.

DOC CORKLE/NBC/1952 with Eddie Mayehoff as Doc Corkle was the first dentist in a lead role.

In 1954, NBC premiered a 30-minute anthology series called MEDIC. Based on actual case histories (a la DRAGNET), the series established standards for realism and accuracy in medicine on-the-air.

THE GREATEST GIFT/NBC/1954-55 was the first medical drama with a female physician in the leading role. Anne Burr starred as Dr. Eve Allen on this daytime soap opera, assisted by her close friend Dr. Phil Stone (Philip Foster).

Anne Burr had starred earlier as Dr. Kate Morrow in the medical drama CITY HOSPITAL/CBS/1952-53 where she was assistant to Dr. Barton Crane (Melville Ruick) Medical Director at City Hospital. See also - "Nurse Series" and "Psychiatry Series
