Musical Comedy - Broadcast on July 25, 1939 "Topsy and Eva Television Edition" was the first musical comedy to be telecast via the new medium of television. The one-hour program was broadcast by the NBC station W2XBS in New York City. Featured performers included the Duncan Sisters, the Southernaires, the Chansonettes, Billy Kent, Florence Auer, Winfield Hoeney and Edwin Vail.

The first full-length musical comedy written especially for television was "The Boys from Boise". Directed by Ray Nelson, the program aired September 28, 1944 via station WABD-TV in New York City.
