Broadcast Firsts

Parades - The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (sponsored by Macy's Department Store) featuring marching bands, floats and helium filled balloons was first televised in 1951.

The first coast-to-coast color broadcast of the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California was telecast on NBC to over 21 cities on January 1, 1954. Actor Don Ameche was the parade's official host; James Wallington and Roy Neal were the parade announcers.
