Science Fiction Series - CAPTAIN VIDEO AND THE VIDEO RANGERS was the first sci-fi television series. Primarily aimed at children, it was telecast live five nights a week on the DuMont Network from 1949-55. Captain Video operated from a secret mountain headquarters and commanded a group of special agents known as Video Rangers. Richard Coogan (1949-50) and Al Hodges (1951-55) both starred as the Captain over the run of the series. ROCKY JONES, SPACE RANGER/SYN/1954 was the first sci-fi television series made entirely on film. This method allowed for more sophisticated special effects over the live broadcasts. Richard Crane played Rocky Jones, the chief of the Space Rangers who battled those who threatened the peace of the United Solar System. THE SECRETS OF ISIS/CBS/1975, a live-action Saturday morning adventure featured the first female superhero starring Joanna Cameron who played high school teacher, Andrea Thomas, a mortal who found a magic amulet that gave her the powers of the ancient Egyptian goddess, Isis. Other superheroines to surface after ISIS were WONDER WOMAN/ABC/CBS/1976-79 starring Lynda Carter and THE BIONIC WOMAN/ABC/NBC/1976-78 starring Lindsay Wagner. SHEENA, QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE/SYN/1955 was the first Jungle super heroine sans mystical powers. Beautiful and buxom Irish McCalla starred as an air-crash survivor who grew up in the jungles of Africa.
