Some Moonlighting-isms
| Maddie: |
You have the morals of rabbit, the
character of a slug, and the brain of a platypus. |
| Maddie: |
You believe me? |
| David: |
No...But I believe IN You. |
| Maddie: |
That was a terrific thing to say...What
does it mean? |
| David: |
I have no idea. |
| Maddie: |
Wipe that stupid grin off your face. |
| David: |
This is the smartest grin I
know. |
| Maddie: |
"I WAS
NOT BORN YESTERDAY!" |
| David: |
"It's
true. We had lunch yesterday. If she'd been born, I'd have
noticed." |
| David: |
Do bears bear? Do bees bee? Do eggs get
laid?" Do ducks duck? Do flies fly? Does Spock beam up? |
| Maddie: |
The Anselmo Case! The Alselmo Case! I'm
sick of hearing about the Anselmo Case! The Anselmo's can solve
their own case! |
David: |
Could've fooled me.
Maddie: |
A gnat with a lobotomy could
fool you. |
Maddie: |
You're an animal!
David: |
Exactly |
Maddie: |
And what does that mean?
David: |
The male of the species engages in sexual congress no less than
forty-six thousand, five hundred and three times from the time he is
thirteen until the time he runs out of ammo.
Maddie: |
You know that and you can't remember our zip code? |
David:
Live fast, die young, leave clean underwear.
(his motto)
David: |
Women! You can't live with 'em, you can't throw 'em on the curb when your
through with 'em! |
| David:
I do
benefits for all religions—I'd hate to blow the hereafter on a
technicality. |
| David: |
We're looking for a man with a mole on his nose. |
| Doorman: |
Mole on his nose? |
| Maddie: |
A mole on his nose! |
| Doorman: |
What kind of clothes? |
| Maddie: |
What kind of clothes? |
| David: |
What kind of clothes do you suppose? |
| Doorman: |
What kind of clothes do I suppose would be worn by a man
with a mole on his nose? Who knows? |
| David: |
Did I happen to mention, did I bother to disclose, this man
that we're seeking with a mole on his nose --I'm not sure of his clothes, or anything else, except he's
Chinese -- a big clue by itself. |
| Maddie: |
How do you do that? |
| David: |
Gotta read a lot of Dr. Seuss. |
| Doorman: |
I'm sorry to say, I'm sad to report
I haven't seen anyone at all of that sort.
Not a man who's Chinese
with a mole on his nose
with some kind of clothes
that you can't suppose.
So, get away from this door
and get out of this place
or I'll have to hurt you --
put my foot in your face. |
| David: |
Oh. |
| Maddie: |
Time to go. |
| David: |
Time to go. |

TRIVIA
NOTE:
Named after her grandfather, Cy, and her father, Bill, Cybill Shepherd was born February 18,
1950 in Memphis, TN. She won the Miss Teenage Memphis
competition in 1966 and graduated Memphis East High School in 1968. That
same year she became Model of the year. One of her claims to fame
was having dated Elvis Presley when she was nineteen years old. She
parlayed her career as a model into movies when director Peter
Bogdanovitch saw her face on the cover of Glamour magazine and cast
her in the film The Last Picture Show (1971). Cybill went on to
become a successful film and TV actress. Her TV credits included THE
YELLOW ROSE/NBC/1983-84 (as Colleen Champion, Texas ranch owner); CYBILL/CBS/1995-98 (as Cybill Sheridan Robbins Woodbine, a struggling
middle aged actress ); and the host of talk show MEN ARE FROM MARS, WOMEN
ARE FROM VENUS/SYN/2000-2001. In 2003 she starred in the TV movie
Martha, Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart.
One of her best roles was as Eula Varner
in the 1985 remake of William Faulkner's The Long Hot Summer
with Don Johnson. Cybill's look-alike daughter, Clementine
Shepherd-Ford is also an actress.
Walter Bruce Willis was born on March 19, 1955,
in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany, while his father was stationed in the army.
Returning to the States, his family
relocated to Penns Grove, New Jersey. After his success with MOONLIGHTING,
Bruce left the arena of television to make it big in the movies. He is
best known for his role as police detective John McClane in the action
packed film Die Hard (1988) and its subsequent sequels. Bruce
married (and later divorced in 1998) actress Demi Moore and became one of
the founders of the restaurant chain know as Planet Hollywood. In 2002,
Willis was named Man of the Year by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding
Theatricals.
If you want to get the low-down on the
stars of the
series MOONLIGHTING read: Cybill & Bruce: Moonlighting Magic by Barbara Siegel and Scott Siegel (St. Martin's
Press, 1987).
"Moonlighting"
(Lyrics sung by Al Jarreau)
Some walk by night,
Some fly by day,
Nothing could change you,
Set and sure of the way.
There is the sun and moon,
They sing their own sweet tune,
Watch them when dawn is due,
Sharing one space.
We'll walk by night,
We'll fly by day,
Moonlighting strangers
Who just met on the way.
