Lanford, Illinois - Fictional hometown of the
Connors, a lower-middle class family as seen on the comedy sitcom
ROSEANNE/ABC/1988-1997. The town of Lanford was founded on November
11, 1946 and is situated about halfway between Chicago and Rockford.
The Conner's lived at 714 Delaware Street (near Third Street).
Dan Conner is a construction worker. He lives with his outspoken
wife, Roseanne [née Harris], and their children Becky [age 13],
Darlene [age 11] and son, David Jacob a.k.a. "DJ" [age 6] and later
a new baby Jerry Garcia Conner [born 10/31/95]. Roseanne's sister
and best friend Jackie Harris, visits so often she might as well
live there.
To help with the family expenses, Roseanne took a variety of jobs,
including an assembly line worker at Wellman's Plastics, a shopping
center restaurant waitress, a hair salon assistant, an over-the-
phone magazine subscription seller; tavern worker and as a partner
with her husband in their own motorcycle business (Lanford Custom
Cycle Shop).

Dan and Roseanne Hit the Road
When the Conner's motorcycle shop failed, Dan found work at the Lanford City Garage while Roseanne opened up the Lanford Lunch Box
at Route #41 that served "Loose Meat" sandwiches. She partnered with
her sister, Jackie and their lesbian friend, Nancy. When a new
salad-serving diner opened across the street Roseanne remarked, "We
are a loose meat town. We are not some salad-eating, nordic-tacking
freaks that wanna live past 50."
The whole Conner clan pitched in to help run the eatery except for
Roseanne's daughter Darlene (Sara Gilbert), an avowed vegetarian who
objected to way the family earned its money.
When Darlene did something wrong, her mother Roseanne made her work
at the shop as a punishment and serve loose-meat sandwiches to the
customers. See also -

Roseanne Theme Song Lyrics
If what doesn't kill us is making us stronger,
Were gonna last longer,
Than the greatest wall in China,
Or that rabbit with the drum
If there's one thing that I learned,
While waiting for my turn,
Is that in each life some rain falls,
But you also get some sun,
And we'll make out better than ok,
Hear what I say?
Yeah, any day
