Jimmy Walker's Lucky Hat -
Before auditioning for a small role of a junkie in the Robert Duvall
police thriller Badge 373 (1973), comedian Jimmy Walker felt he
needed a hat to get into the character and so he purchased a floppy
hat for $1.99 from a Manhattan subway stand. Stomping on the hat to
make it look dirty, he donned the hat and won the part. Ever since,
he has worn the lucky hat on such TV series as GOOD TIMES and BUSTIN'
LOOSE.
TRIVIA NOTE: On the British sitcom
KEEPING UP APPEARANCES/BBC/1990-95 the character Onslow (Geoffrey
Hughes) wore a hat sporting the initials "FH." They letters
stood for Fulton Hogan, Ltd., a New Zealand asphalt and road
building company. Hughes was given the hat by a lorry (truck)
driver. See also -
