Hopalong
Cassidy's Black Shirt - The color black, the traditional
calling card of the "bad guy" in the western adventure became the
color of choice for actor William Boyd when he played the frontier
hero Hopalong Cassidy on the western adventure HOPALONG
CASSIDY/NBC/1949-51.
In fact, in 1950 the demand for Hopalong Cassidy black outfits
and other paraphernalia was so great that the US, for a time, ran
short of black dye due to the popularity of the television program.
Another western personality who chose to wear black was
gunfighter Paladin played by Richard Boone on the western adventure
HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL/CBS/1957-63.
