*(Nell Carter) Nell Kirkland, a black mother of
four and part-time piano teacher from Pittsburgh who was married to
Michael Kirkland (Roger E. Mosley), a school bus driver. Their children
included Dante Beze as Raymond, their cool teenage son; Caryn Ward as
Lorette, their teenage daughter; Marlon Taylor as Peter, their brainy
twelve-year-old who aspired to be a doctor; and Trent Cameron as Nate, the
ten-year-old family con-artist. Also featured was Leila Danette as Helen,
Nell's loudmouth mother who constantly disapproved of her daughter's
husband.

**(Louis Gossett, Jr.) Isak Poole, a black
ex-slave fighting in the American Revolution with a group called the
"Yankee Doodle Society".
THE YOUNG RIDERS/ABC/1989-92
*(Don Franklin/costar) Noah Dixon, a free born
black teenager who teamed up with the young riders of the Pony Express.
His character was introduced during the 1990 season.
YOUR NUMBER'S UP/NBC/1985
*(Nipsey Russell) Nipsey Russell, black comedian
who hosted this short-lived game show which featured three contestants and
members of the studio audience competing for prizes. Nipsey Russell was a
popular guest on the game show MISSING LINKS/NBC/ABC/1963-64 where he
displayed his trademark poetic talent of rhyming. He also was a guest on
the RHYME AND REASON/ABC/1975-76 where he appeared with six celebrity
poets who gave portions of poems to contestants who had to complete their
rhyme.
