Can of SpamSpam - Developed in 1937 by the Hormel Company, Spam™ is a processed block of meat (a mixture of spices and ham) sealed in a can. It was a standard food rations for thousands of GIs during the Second World War. Spam (a registered trademark in 101 countries) became immortalized in a silly sketch on MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS/BBC/1969-74 when customers in a restaurant tried to order a meal, but their menu offered nothing but a continual variation on Spam recipes, for example, "egg and spam; egg, bacon and spam; egg, bacon, sausage and spam; spam, bacon, sausage and spam; spam, egg, spam, spam, bacon and spam; spam, sausage, spam, spam, spam, bacon, spam, tomato and spam; spam, spam, spam, egg and spam." The sketch also featured a loud operatic chorus of male Vikings singing a rousing overture of "Spam!, Spam!, Spam! Spam!"

During a 2/4/99 segment of THE ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW, Rosie conducted a quiz called "Is it Pam or Spam? " The goal of the quiz was to find out how much the audience knew about saucy actress Pamela Anderson and the spicy canned meat product Spam.  Sample Question: "This official website gets over 300,000 hits a day?" (Pam); "Which one was first enjoyed by the public at a football game?" (Spam); and "Which is more popular in Hawaii than anywhere else in the world?" (Spam).

TRIVIA NOTE: On the country variety show HEE HAW someone asked George "Goober" Lindsey "What exactly is Spam?" He replied "Something Passing As Meat."
