"Look
sharp now, here's the dear boy himself, MERR-V-I-N!" - A typical opening on THE MERV GRIFFIN
SHOW/CBS/1962-72/SYN/1972-86 as announced by the delightful yet
droll Arthur Treacher.
Merv's British sidekick worked as the show's announcer until his
death on December 14, 1975. Afterwards, Merv worked solo.
Arthur Treacher
is also remembered for his role as the English valet Jeeves in
the films Thank You, Jeeves (1935) and Step Lively, Jeeves
(1936) based on the P.G. Wodehouse's character; a memorable tap
dance number with Shirley Temple in the 1935 film Curly Top; and a fish and chips fast food
restaurant popular in the 1970s which bears his name.
