Jennifer Aniston's Shag - The twenty
something situation comedy FRIENDS/NBC/1994-2004 started a haircut craze in
the early 1990s when actress Jennifer Aniston in the role of coffee
bar waitress Rachel Green sported an extremely popular shag
hairstyle described as "a little bit below the shoulder and layered
all over...longer on the top, then shags toward the bottom."

Her hairstyle was created by Chris McMillan of Los Angeles'
Estilo salon (who also created the stylish cuts for the show's other
female casts members). Salon great John Sahag invented the shag
haircut 25 years earlier.
Other celebrities to sport the shag look included Goldie Hawn,
Victoria Principal, Jane Fonda in the movie Klute (1971) and
former Wella Balsam model Farrah Fawcett-Majors (the one with the
gorgeous, flowing blond hair with a feathered shag cut) when she
costarred as Jill Munroe on the detective drama CHARLIE'S
ANGELS/ABC/1976-81.
TRIVIA NOTE: Another account
claims that Aniston's famous "Rachel" hairdo was created by accident
when a friend cut her hair with a razor.
