Slimer - Green blob of ectoplasm (who "slimed"
people with gobs of gooey green slime) seen on the occult animated series THE
REAL GHOSTBUSTERS/ABC/1986-88 (later revamped as SLIMER! AND THE REAL
GHOSTBUSTERS/ABC/1988-92).
Slimer was a companion to a group of humans parapsychologists called The
Ghostbusters (Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore)
who captured rouge spirits with their proton packs devices and placed them in a
secure holding chamber.
Headquartered in a converted fire station, the Ghostbusters traveled in a
large white ambulance vehicle (ECTO_1) whenever they got the call to eradicate
or capture disruptive supernatural apparitions.
In 1997, a syndicated continuation of the Ghostbusters saga entitled EXTREME
GHOSTBUSTERS featured Slimer, Janice their receptionist, Egon and a group of
four university physics students (Eduardo, Kylie, Garrett, and Roland) who were
enrolled in Dr. Egon Spengler's Paranormal class. When trouble raised it ugly
head in the New York underground, Egon enlisted their help to battle eerie
supernatural phenomenon.
Both cartoon series was an animated spin-off of the
motion picture Ghostbusters (1984).
