  Oaths & Pledges - Sitcoms

"Cross my heart and hope to spit" - The most solemn oath of a freckle-faced seven-year-old named Theodore Cleaver (Jerry Mathers), a.k.a. "the Beaver" on the sitcom LEAVE IT TO BEAVER/CBS/ABC/1957-63. On the sitcom LAVERNE & SHIRLEY/ABC/1976-83 Laverne DeFazio (Penny Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Cindy Williams) once sealed a promise by saying "Cross my heart/Hope to die/Stick a needle/In my eye."
