Oaths & Pledges - Sitcoms

"Fingers to Fingers..." - Oath used by the fraternal members of the BPLA (Brooklyn Patriots of Los Angeles) when they needed to make an oath that guaranteed their sincerity on the sitcom THE LIFE OF RILEY/NBC/1949-58. The full oath reads: "Fingers to fingers, toes to toes, if I break this pact, break my nose."

Members of the BPLA included Chester A. Riley (Jackie Gleason/William Bendix) a displaced New Yorker living in Los Angeles and his sarcastic next-door neighbor Jim Gillis (Sid Tomack/Tom D'Andrea).

TRIVIA NOTE: On the classic situation comedy THE HONEYMOONERS/CBS/1955-56 the fraternal group known as the Raccoons used the toast "Fingers to fingers, thumbs to thumbs, watch out below, here she comes."
