  Oaths & Pledges - Sitcoms

"Fingers to fingers..." - When the fraternal members of the BPLA (Brooklyn Patriots of Los Angeles) on the sitcom THE LIFE OF  RILEY/NBC/1949-58 needed to make an oath that guaranteed their sincerity, they proclaimed the silly but solemn saying "Fingers to fingers, toes to toes, if I break this pact, break my nose." Members included Chester A. Riley (Jackie Gleason/William Bendix) a displaced New Yorker living in Los Angeles and his sarcastic next-door neighbor Jim Gillis (Sid Tomack/Tom D'Andrea). On the sitcom THE HONEYMOONERS/CBS/1955-56 the fraternal group known as the Raccoons used the toast "Fingers to fingers, thumbs to thumbs, watch out below, here she comes."
