Clinton Corners, Georgia - The rural situation comedy CARTER COUNTRY/ABC/1977-79 starred Victor French as Chief Roy Mobey, a redneck police chief from the small Georgia town of Clinton Corners (located near Plains Georgia, the home of President Jimmy Carter).

Assisting the Chief were:

  • Kene Holliday as Sgt. Curtis Baker, an African-American from from the North who was trained in big city crime techniques and often at odds with his white backwoods "good old boy" boss.
  • Harvey Vernon as Deputy Jasper DeWitt, Jr.
  • Gulch Koock as Deputy Harley Puckett
  • Barbara Cason as Policewoman Cloris Phebus

Besides his police staff, the Chief had to contend with Mayor Teddy Burnside, a chubby, wimp of a politician who ran Burnside Savings and Loans. His catchphrase was "Handle It!"

Others citizens of Clinton Corners included:

  • Vernee Watson as Lucille Banks, the Mayor's black secretary and love interest (and later wife) of Deputy Curtis Baker.
  • Melanie Griffith as Tracy Quinn, a cub reporter
  • Amzie Strickland as Julia Mobley, the Chief's wife
