Lake County, Nevada - The rural police
comedy SHE'S THE SHERIFF/NBC/1987-89 starred Suzanne Somers as widow Hildy
Granger who took over her late husband's job as sheriff of Lake County, Nevada
(near Lake Tahoe).
Assisting Sheriff Hildy were:
- George Wyner as Deputy Max Rubin who was passed over for the job as
sheriff. He challenged Hildy's authority and often sabotaged her efforts in
hopes of getting Hildy to quit.
- Lou Richards as Deputy Dennis Putnam
- Guich Koock as Deputy Hugh Mulcahy
- Leonard Lightfoot as Deputy Alvin Wiggins
At home, Hildy had to deal with her family which included her mother Gussie
Holt (Pat Carroll) who moved from the East Coast to Lake County to help run the household and
supervise the children Kenny (Taliesin Jaffe) and Allison (Nicky Rose) so
Hildy could succeed as a "lady" sheriff.
TRIVIA NOTE: The series began as a pilot entitled CASS MALLOY
starring Caroline Williams. It aired on CBS on 21 July 1982. When
the series was set to hit prime time, actress
Priscilla Barnes was slated to play the role of the sheriff, but Suzanne
Somers assumed the role in a last minute casting change.
