CHiPs - Acronym for California Highway Patrol and title of the . popular police series CHiPS/1977-83.

The program followed the day-day adventures of two California Highway Patrol officers Jon baker (Larry Wilcox) and Francis Llewellyn "Ponch" Poncherello (Erik Estrada) as they maintained law and order on California freeways while cruising police-issued Kawasaki 1000's motorcycles

Other CHiPs officers on the show included:

  • Brodie Greer as Officer Baricza
  • Brianne Leary as Officer Sindy Cahill

  • Michael Dorn as Officer Turner
  • Bruce Jenner as Officer Steve McLeish
  • Tom Reilly as Officer Bobby "Hot Dog" Nelson
  • Bruce Penhall as Cadet Bruce Nelson
  • Tina Gayle as Officer Kathy Linahan
  • Clarence Gilyard, Jr. as Officer Webster
  • Lou Wagner as Harlan, the police mechanic who services the CHiPs vehicles.

The series reunion CHiPS '99 (1998) reunited Jon and Ponch for a two-hour TV Movie (now riding supped-up BMW motorcycles).

In 2009, Wilmer Valderrama (of THAT 70s SHOW fame)  plays the role of Francis 'Ponch' Poncherello in the remake of the popular show.
