  Puppet Cats

Charlemane the Lion - Hand puppet featured on early installments of THE MORNING SHOW on CBS in the 1950s. Charlemane was a wide-eyed lion with a large snout and shaggy hair who wore a crown. This friendly lion debuted on the CBS morning program to attract viewers away from THE TODAY PROGRAM, a competing morning program on NBC that featured a real-live chimpanzee named J. Fred Muggs. The puppet controlled by Bil and Cora Baird, appeared with the likes of Walter Cronkite, who hosted this two-hour morning program of music, news and entertainment.
