Ryan's Hope - The daytime soap opera RYAN'S HOPE/ABC/1975-89 told the story of three generations of Irish-Americans, featuring the Ryan family who owned a tavern named Ryan's Hope on the upper West Side of Manhattan. Many of the bar's customers came from Riverside Hospital located just across the street. Ryan's Hope was founded by Johnny Ryan (Bernard Barrow) who ran the local pub with the help of his wife, Maeve (Helen Gallagher). The series concluded in January of 1989 with Maeve Ryan singing the sentimental Irish folksong favorite "Danny Boy" to the customer at the tavern. The series was created by Claire Labine and Paul Avila Mayer.
