Marvin the Paranoid Android - Awkward moving android on the science fiction fantasy THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY/BBC/1981.

Marvin the Paranoid Android - THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY

The maniacally depressive Marvin (David Learner) was the onboard companion to alien Ford Prefect (David Dixon) and earthling Arthur Dent (Simon Jones) as they traveled through the cosmos in search of adventure.

Marvin spouted such phrases and commentary:

  • "I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed".

  • "Life. Don't talk to me about life."

  • "Sorry! Did I say something wrong?"

  • "Pardon me for breathing, which I never do anyway so I don't know why I've bothered to say it."

  • "Oh, god, I'm so depressed."

  • "I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left side. Oh, yes. I mean, I've asked for them to be replaced, but no one ever listens."

  • "Do you want me to sit in a corner and rust or just fall apart where I'm standing?"

  • "What are you supposed to do if you ARE a maniacally depressed robot?"

  • "Reverse primary thrust, Marvin. That's what they say to me. Open airlock number 3, Marvin. Marvin, can you pick up that piece of paper? Here I am brain the size of a planet, and they ask me to pick up a piece of paper."

The voice of Marvin was provided by Stephen Moore for both the TV series and the 2005 movie remake. Marvin the Paranoid Android is based on characters created by Douglas Adams in his book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". See also "Deep Thought the Computer"
