Small to Medium Spacecraft (Crew under 50 People)

Galaxy - Rocketship featured on the children's science fiction series CAPTAIN VIDEO AND THE VIDEO RANGERS/DUM/1949-56. The "Galaxy" was a silver, bullet-shaped spacecraft (more like a fat dart with a door on it side) used by Captain Video (Richard Coogan/Al Hodges) when pursuing such 21st century villains as  Tobor the Robot and the evil genius, Dr. Pauli. Similar to a V-2 rocket, the Galaxy took off vertically.

Flight scenes for the program were done off camera and then inserted into the "live" broadcast by special effects team of Russell and Haberstroh who designed the Galaxy with a weekly prop budget of $25.00. Not surprisingly, the rocketship controls and interior were constructed of cardboard and paint.

Later in the series, the Galaxy was destroyed when an evil scientist miniaturized/destroyed the spacecraft. Its replacement was the Galaxy II.
