  Vulnerabilities - Words & Phrases

Accident - The word that taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma (Danny DeVito) never wanted to hear ("Never, never say that word!") on the sitcom TAXI/ABC/NBC/1978-83.

Ammonia - The one word that triggered fits of aggression in Captain H. M. "Howling Mad" Murdock (Dwight Schultz), a Vietnam veteran with alleged psychiatric problems (diagnosed with paranoid delusions) on the adventure THE A-TEAM/NBC/1983-87. Murdock lived in Building 16 of the VA hospital in Los Angeles and escaped from time to time to help a group of former Vietnam vets known as the A-Team.

Gomez Addams & The French Language - The French language drove eccentric millionaire Gomez Addams (John Astin) crazy with desire when spoken by his wife, Morticia (Carolyn Jones) on the bizarre sitcom THE ADDAMS FAMILY/ABC/1964-66. As Gomez would say "Tish!, when you speak French, it drives me wild, Cara Mia!" He would then grab her arm and plant a trail of kisses from her hand up to her waiting lips. Morticia's French supposedly helped clear up a sinus condition Gomez had for 22 years. One of Gomez's love poems stated "When I first saw you from afar, My heart flamed with fierce passion. And when you spoke French, ooh-la-la!..."

Maynard G. Krebs & "Work!" - On the sitcom THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS/CBS/1959-63, Maynard G. Krebs (Bob Denver), the beatnik sidekick of teenager Dobie Gillis (Dwayne Hickman) was seemingly allergic to work. Whenever anyone used the "dirty" word within listening distance of this bearded bohemian, it caused him to wildly flinch and involuntarily shout "Work!"- the word that seemed to be the furthest thing from his mind. Episode No.70 "Dobie Plays Cupid" was the first episode where Maynard uttered his trademark catchphrase.

Officer Stanley Jones & "Little Guy" - On the police comedy BROKEN BADGES/CBS/1990-91 Officer Stanley Jones (Jay Johnson) was classified as "broken or unstable" and as such earned him membership in the Rubber Gun Squad, officers on psychiatric leave. One of Stanley's big problems was his small stature and his sensitivity about it. When anyone called him a "Little Guy" he went ballistic and pummeled the unsuspecting offender. He had another problem as well, he carried around a ventriloquist dummy named Officer Danny that he talked to and confided all his problems. See also  NICKNAMES: "Bullet"
