Retrometabolism - Regeneration
technique used by the Mysterons, aliens from the planet Mars
on the syndicated puppet series CAPTAIN SCARLET AND THE
MYSTERONS/SYN/1967.
When the Earth sent an exploratory probe to Mars, its
inhabitants, the Mysterons, thought the probe was a prelude to
invasion. Fighting back they used a strange weapon/force
called Retrometabolism in their bid to battle Earth.
The process reproduced the likeness of any object but first
that object must be destroyed. From its ashes the Mysterons
recreated an exact duplicate with a mind and will controlled
only by them.
"The Mysterons, sworn enemies of Earth, possessing the
ability to recreate an exact likeness of an object or
person...but first they must destroy. [cat howls, gun fires]
Leading the fight, one man fate has made indestructible. His
name...CAPTAIN SCARLET" [A deep, foreboding voice announces]
"This is the voice of the Mysterons. We know that you can hear
us earthmen. We have observed the pathetic events of SPECTRUM
to combat us and we have decided to render them powerless. We
intend to immobilize the whole of SPECTRUM."
The indestructible
...Captain Scarlet
This system was used to kill Captain Scarlet, a member of
the peacekeeping group known as SPECTRUM. However, it
backfired and the power of destruction was somehow reversed
turning Captain Scarlet into an indestructible superhero.
