Shown as a segment on CAPTAIN KANGAROO/CBS/1955-1984,
the animated series The
Adventures of Lariat Sam (a Terrytoons
Production) was created by Robert Keeshan
(a.k.a. "Captain
Kangaroo").
Lariat Sam, a friendly, idealistic hero, never carried
a gun, but instead used his lasso to subdue
wrongdoers.
His sidekick Tippytoes (a.k.a. "Wonder
Horse") wore a derby hat and liked to read poetry.
Together they
battled their nemesis, Badlands Meeney - who was
just as rotten as his name - and his cohort in
crime J. Skulking Bushwack.
Each of the thirteen Lariat Sam stories
contained three 5-minute chapters. The series
went into syndication after 1965. The voices
were supplied by Dayton Allen
