The western comedy DUSTY'S TRAIL/SYN/1973
followed the exploits of a wagon
train heading to the gold rush in California.
This westward venture was lead by Mr. Callahan (Forrest
Tucker), a seasoned wagonmaster and Dusty (Bob
Denver), the bumbling frontier scout (with horse
named Freckles) who was
often responsible for the wagon train being off course.
The wagon train's passenger manifest included:
- Ivor Francis as Mr. Carson Brookhaven, a wealthy, snooty. socialite
with more money than he could spend in a 100 years.
- Lynn Wood as Mrs. Brookhaven, his equally snooty wife.
- Jeannine Riley as Lulu McQueen, an aspiring showgirl.
- Lori Saunders as Betsy, a sweet and simple schoolmarm.
- William Cort as Andy, an educated nice guy.

Theme Song Lyrics
Let's follow the path of Dusty's Trail,
Oh! Dusty's Trail, Dusty's Trail.
A stage and a wagon heading west.
Part of a wagon train lost from the rest.
Dusty's the reason for their plight.
Thanks to Dusty, nothing's right.
Only the wagonmaster's hand
Keeps 'em a-rollin' to the promised land.
Oh! The going gets mighty rough
But they don't seem to mind.
It's Californ-i-a, that's the place they must
find.
Deserts and rocks are in their way
But they wont stop, come what may.
Mountains and hills that they must scale.
But they know they'll make it 'cause they just
can't fail.
On Dusty's Trail.
TRIVIA NOTE: The TV series was a
reworking of the situation comedy GILLIGAN'S ISLAND also
created by Sherwood Schwartz.
Instead of being stranded on a remote tropical
island, the wagon train passengers (a rich
couple, two girls and a guy) were lost amidst
the splendor of the old west as they tried to
find a route to California.
Four episodes from the DUSTY'S TRAILS series
("Tomahawk Territory", "Horse of Another Color",
"There is Nothing Like a Dame", and "The Not So
Magnificent Seven") were combined to create the
movie The Wackiest Wagon Train in the West
(1976).
