Title card - SIERRA

NBC Network
1974
Drama
30 Minutes

Contemporary adventure about Park Rangers stationed at the rustic Sierra National Park.

Rangers on duty included:

  • Jack Hogan as Chief Ranger Jack Moore
  • James G. Richardson as Ranger Tim Cassidy
  • Ernest Thompson as Ranger Matt Harper
  • Michael Warren as Ranger P.J. Lewis
  • Susan Foster as  Ranger Julie Beck

When the rangers weren't assisting visitors or hiking park trails, they kept a watchful eye out for Cruncher the bear who was notorious for breaking into the park's trash containers as he foraged for something to eat.

TRIVIA NOTE: Produced by Jack Webb's Mark VII Productions, the 13-episode series was filmed at Yosemite National Park. Its theme song was written by John Denver, noted for his song "Rocky Mountain High (Colorado)."

On episode No.10 "The Urban Ranger," Paramedics John Gage (Randolph Mantooth) and  Roy DeSoto (Kevin Tighe) from the NBC series EMERGENCY appeared on the program, thus implying the park's proximity to Southern California. The guys were at the park for a cross-training program between the LA County Fire Department and the Sierra National Park Rangers.

Obituaries: James G. Richardson: 02/20/1983;
