The story of a frontier newlywed couple
Molly (Linda Purl) and David (Roger Kern) Beaton
as they struggled to establish a homestead
amidst the Dakota Territory of the 1870s.
Friends of the Beatons included:

- Mare Winningham as Nettie Peters
- Michelle Stacy as Flora Peters
- Jeff Cotler as Charlie Peters
TRIVIA NOTE: The short-lived, three
episode series was based on two 1976 movie
pilots: The Young Pioneers and
Young Pioneers' Christmas.
The series was inspired by the "The Young
Pioneer" books by Rose Wilder Lane.
Airing on April 2, 1978, the first episode (two
hours) was entitled "Sky in the Window,"
followed by two one hour long episodes "A Kite
for Charlie" (04/09/78) and "The Promise of
Spring"
(04/16/78).
