HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL/CBS/1957-63 - Western adventure starring Richard Boone as Paladin, a refined West Point educated, ex-army officer who became a gun-for-hire after the Civil War. Paladin was based in San Francisco at the elegant Hotel Carlton. His business card read: "Have Gun, Will Travel. Wire Paladin, San Francisco." TRIVIA NOTE: In 1974, a federal magistrate ruled that a Rhode Island rodeo performer, Victor DaCosta actually created the idea for the Paladin character and was entitled to the profits realized from the popular western.
The Rob Reiner film Stand By Me (1986) featured a memorable railroad track scene with a group of young boys walking the rails and singing the theme from HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL ["Paladin, Paladin, where do you roam..."] (30 Minutes)   

HEC RAMSEY/NBC/1972-74 - Richard Boone starred as an aging gunfighter who took the job of deputy sheriff in the  turn-of-the-century town of New Prospect, Oklahoma to help Sheriff Oliver B. Stamp (Richard Lenz), a honorable but inexperienced, young lawman. Hec Ramsey helped solved his criminal cases with the use of modern criminology techniques. The series was a rotating program (one of four) on the NBC SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE. (90/120 Minutes) 

THE HECTOR HEATHCOTE SHOW/NBC/1963-65 - Animated cartoon starring Hector Heathcote, a bumbling time traveling scientist who became an unsung hero for anonymously assisting in a variety of historical events such as readying Paul Revere's horse and building the rowboat that carried Washington across the Delaware. Part of the show's narration included the line "History has recorded many great names, but only we know about Hector Heathcote. 

HERE COME THE BRIDES/ABC/1968-70 - Set in the Northwest woods of Seattle, Washington, this 1870s comedy adventure followed the logging operations of Jason Bolt (Robert Brown) and his brothers Joshua (David Soul) and Jeremy (Bobby Sherman) on Bridal Veil Mountain and the problems that arose when 100 mail-order brides arrived from New Bedford, Massachusetts as intended mates for Bolt's crew of lonely loggers. (60 Minutes) 

THE HERO/NBC/1966-67 - Richard Mulligan starred as Sam Garret, an actor who played the brave and courageous "Jed Clayton - US Marshal" on a fictional television series. The series made the point that the actor and the character are different and that never the two would  meet. (30 Minutes) 

HIGH CHAPARRAL/NBC/1967-71   - This western adventure followed the 1870s saga of the Cannon family and their to struggle to run the High Chaparral, a cattle ranch located in the arid high dessert of the Arizona Territory. Leif Erikson starred as Big John Cannon, the family patriarch. Family members included Linda Cristal as John's wife, Victoria Montoya-Cannon; Cameron Mitchell as Buck Cannon, John's brother; Mark Slade as Blue Cannon, John's son; and Victoria's stepson; Frank Silvera as Don Sebastian Montoya, Victoria father; Gilbert Roland as his brother Don Domingo de Montoya and Henry Darrow as Manolito, Don Sebastian's son.

HONDO/ABC/1967 - Richard Taeger starred as Hondo Lane, an ex-Confederate soldier who worked as a scout and troubleshooter for the US Army in the Arizona Territory of the 1870s. The series was based on the story by Louis L'Amour and the movie Hondo (1953) starring John Wayne. (60 Minutes) 

HOPALONG CASSIDY/NBC/1949-51 - Riding atop his horse Topper, (William "Hoppy" Boyd) starred as Hopalong Cassidy, a western hero dressed in black who helped maintained law and order in the Old West assisted by his sidekick, Red Connors (Edgar Buchanan). Reedited feature films from 1945-49 also appeared on early television networks. Gabby Hayes or Andy Clyde were Hoppy's film sidekicks. (30 Minutes)

HOTEL DE PAREE/CBS/1959-60 - The Hotel De Paree, an elegant European style hotel located in the 1870s town of Georgetown, Colorado was operated by two attractive females, Annette Deveraux (Jeanette Nolan) and her niece Monique (Judi Meredith). The hotel was protected by the Sundance Kid (Earl Holliman), a legendary gunslinger turned law enforcer. (30 Minutes) 

HOW THE WEST WAS LOST/DIS/1993 - Taped in 25 states, Mexico and Canada, this six-part Discovery Channel p.o.v. documentary told the Indian side of American History from Revolutionary times to the present interspersed with comments from descendants from such proud Tribes as the Cherokee and Iroquois Nations. Narrated by Peter Thomas. (60 Minutes)

HOW THE WEST WAS WON/ABC/1978-79 - Led by mountain man Zeb Macahan (James Arness), the series followed the saga of the Macahans, a Virginia family setting out West in search of a new life/homestead at the beginning of the 1860s. After Zeb's brother Timothy and his wife, Kate are killed, Zeb adopted their family who included Aunt Molly Culthane (Fionnula Flanagan); Luke Macahan (Bruce Boxleitner; Laura Macahan (Kathryn Holcomb); Josh Macahan (William Kirby Cullen) and Jessie Macahan (Vicki Schreck). The series was based loosely on the movie How The West Was Won (1963) directed by John Ford. (60/120 Minutes) 

HOWDY DOODY/NBC/1947-60 - Buffalo Bob Smith hosted this popular children's program with a western/circus theme. Set in the fictional town of Doodyville, marionette Howdy Doody lived and played with Clarabelle the clown, and Indian Chief Thunderthud, among others. Howdy Doody always dressed in western jeans, shirt and scarf. (60 Minutes)
