LANCER/CBS/1968-70 - Set in California's San Joaquin Valley of the 1870s, this was the story of Murdoch Lancer (Andrew Duggan), an aging cattleman who enlisted the aid of his two sons Johnny Madrid (James Stacy) and Scott (Wayne Maunder) to take the reigns and carry on his efforts in running his ranch. (60 Minutes) 

LARAMIE/NBC/1959-63 - This western adventure told the tale of Sherman brothers, Slim (John Smith) and Andy (Bobby Crawford, Jr.) who inherited their father's Wyoming cattle ranch after he'd been killed by land-grabbers in the 1870s. Robert Fuller played Jess Harper, a drifter who threw in with the brothers to make the ranch a success. (60 Minutes) 

LARADO/NBC/1965-67 - The story of Reese Bennett (Neville Brand), Chad Cooper (Peter Brown), and Joe Riley (William Smith), three Texas Rangers based in Laredo, Texas in the days following the Civil War. Philip Carey costarred as their superior, Captain Edward Parmalee, who gave them their assignments. A late arrival to the team was ranger, Erik Hunter (Robert Wolders). (60 Minutes) 

LASH OF THE WEST/SYN/1951 & ABC/1953 - Reedited "B" western movies (introduced by Lash La Rue) starring cowboy film star, Lash La Rue and his sidekick Fuzzy Q. Jones (Al "Fuzzy" St. John). (15 Minutes) 

LAW OF THE PLAINSMAN/NBC/ABC/1959-62 - The story of Deputy US Marshal Sam Buckhart (Michael Ansara), an Apache educated in the white man's world at Harvard University who returns to the New Mexico Territory of his youth to work for the betterment of his people. He reported to US Marshal Andy Morrison (Dayton Lummis) stationed in Santa Fe. Sam lives in the boarding house run by Martha Commager with an 8-year-old girl he rescued from danger. The concept for the series originated on the western drama THE RIFLEMAN on the episodes "The Indian" and The Raid" (30 Minutes) 

THE LAWMAN/ABC/1958-62 - John Russell starred as Marshal Dan Troop, a stern but fair lawman who maintained order in the 1870s town of Laramie, Wyoming with the assistance of his younger deputy Johnny McKay (Peter Brown). (30 Minutes) 

LAZARUS MAN  See - "A Man Called Shenandoah"

LEGACY/UPN/1998-99 - Set in the post-Civil Wars days of 1881, this was the story of the stormy Logan clan, descendants of Irish immigrants from County Cork, Ireland who continued the family's well-to-do legacy by running a horse and tobacco enterprise on a farm near the city of Lexington, Kentucky. The family members included the dashing Ned Logan (Brett Cullen); his sons Sean (Grayson McCouch), Clay (Jeremy Garrett), daughters Lexy (Sarah Rayne) and Alice (Lea Moreno) and a seventeen-year-old orphan played by Ron Melendez. Steven Williams appeared as Isaac, the family's trusted black ranch hand. 

LEGEND/UPN/1995 - Richard Dean Anderson starred as Ernest Pratt, an alcoholic gambler and dime novelist who was mistaken for one of his own pulp fiction heroes, Nicodemus Legend. John De Lancie costarred as an inventor whose gadgets got Pratt out of dangerous jams when he reluctantly aided the downtrodden in the guise of Legend.

THE LEGEND OF JESSE JAMES/ABC/1965-66 - Christopher Jones starred in this sugar-sweet retelling of the story of the outlaw Jesse James (1847-1882) which depicted him more as a Robin Hood than a vicious killer. (30 Minutes) 

THE LIFE AND LEGEND OF WYATT EARP/ABC/1955-61 - Set in the Kansas towns of Ellsworth, Dodge City and finally Tombstone, Arizona, Hugh O'Brian starred as US Marshal Wyatt Earp (1848-1929) who as the theme song so proudly proclaimed was "brave, courageous and bold." He maintained  law and order with the help of two extra long .45 caliber Buntline Special pistols. The series ended with a five-part story that chronicled the historical gunfight at O.K. Corral. (30 Minutes) 

THE LIFE AND TIMES OF GRIZZLY ADAMS/NBC/1977-78 - Set in the 1850s wilderness of the Sierra Nevada's, Dan Haggerty starred as James Adams, a man falsely accused of murder who escaped to the safety of the mountains and befriended a grizzly bear that he called Ben. Also featured were Mad Jack (Denver Pyle), a mountain man and Nakuma (Don Shanks), an Indian friend. (60 Minutes) 

LIFE WITH SNARKY PARKER/CBS/1950 - Set in the 1850s town of Hotrock, this was the puppet adventures of Deputy Sheriff  Snarky Parker and his horse Heathcliffe. Puppets created by Bil and Cora Baird. (15 Minutes) 

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE/NBC/1974-83 - The story of the Ingalls, a pioneer family struggling to establish a homestead near the 1870s town of Walnut Grove, Minnesota. The family included father, Charles (Michael Landon); his wife Caroline (Karen Grassle); and daughters, Laura (Melissa Gilbert), Mary (Melissa Sue Anderson), and Carrie (Lindsay/Sidney Greenbush). The series was based on the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. (60 Minutes) 

THE LONE RANGER/ABC/1949-57 - Set in the Southwest of the late 19th century, this was the story of Texas Ranger John Reid (Clayton Moore/John Hart), a lone survivor of an ambush by the Cavendish Gang who was found by an Indian named Tonto (Jay Silverheels) and nursed back to health. Recovered from his injuries, the ranger donned a black mask, vowing to avenge the death of his fellow rangers. Attaining his goal, he continued traveling with his faithful Indian companion to lead a fight for law and order in the early days of the Old West. The character was based on the radio program created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker which debuted on January 30, 1933. An animated spin-off series aired on CBS from 1966-69. (30 Minutes) 

THE LONER/CBS/1965-66 - Lloyd Bridges starred as William Colton, an ex-cavalry officer wandering the Old West in search of adventure in the years following the Civil War. (30 Minutes) 

LONESOME DOVE: THE SERIES/SYN/1994-96 - Based on the novel Lonesome Dove written by Larry McMurtry, this was the story of Newt Call, a young man in search of his fortune who settled in the town of Curtis Wells in the Dakota Territory of the 1870s and later became the town's deputy sheriff. Also featured were Christianne Hirt as Hannah Peale Call, Newt's wife; and Eric McCormack as Col. Francis Clay Mosby, a gambler fast on the draw who owned the local Pigseye Saloon. LONESOME DOVE: THE SERIES spun off from the highly acclaimed CBS TV miniseries Lonesome Dove (1989) and Return to Lonesome Dove (1993). The series was retitled LONESOME DOVE: THE OUTLAW YEARS in its second season. (60 Minutes)
