Leonard Nimoy as SpockVulcan Philosophy - In the sci-fi movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) based on the cult TV series STAR TREK/NBC/1966-69 Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) quotes the Vulcan proverb "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Spock employs the logic of that statement when he sacrifices his life by exposing himself to a deadly dose of radiation to repair a starship's propulsion unit so that it could soar away from an impending explosion. In the motion picture Star Trek: Undiscovered Country Spock (now resurrected)  mentioned "There's an old Vulcan proverb 'Only Nixon can go to China," and followed that with "Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end." TRIVIA NOTE: Another alien race in the Star Trek universe was the Klingons who were the opposite of the Vulcans. They were barbaric and war-like and let their passions rule their actions. A popular Klingon proverb reads: "Revenge is a dish, best served cold." See also -  SIGNOFFS: "Live Long and Prosper"
