 Mr.
Mxyzptlk - An impish little man from the fifth
dimension who was a constant irritation to Superman in the comics,
cartoons, and on live-action series like THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERBOY/SYN/1988-91.
Lacking excitement in his own home world, Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced
miks-ye-pit'I-ik) transported himself
to the city of Metropolis where he wreaked mischievous havoc on its
citizenry.
The only one capable of getting the unwanted visitor out
of town was Superman, an alien from the planet Krypton who now
resided in Metropolis in the guise of Clark Kent, a reporter for
the Daily Planet.
If Superman could fool Mr. Mxyzptlk into saying
his name "backwards," (KLTPZYXM - pronounced
'kil-tip-zee-zim') the bratty little alien would have
to return to the fifth dimension for 90 days. But, because he enjoyed
being a pain in the butt, Mr. Mxyzptlk wasn't about to volunteer the
information, so it fell on Superman to get the job done and send
Mr. "M" back to his homeland of ZRFFF (ruled by King BPRXZ).and to his parents TLNDSA
(father), and FUZASTL (mother). Truly, these are names that only a cryptologist could love.

TRIVIA NOTE: The Mr. Mxyzptlk character debuted in
Superman comics #30 in September, 1944. In later years, he
reappeared in a second reincarnation in Superman comic #11
in November, 1987.
Frank Welker provided the voice of Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced
'Mix-ill-plick') in the animated cartoon SUPER FRIENDS/ABC/1973-85.
Gilbert Gottfried voiced Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced Mix-yeez-spit-lick)
in the 1990s cartoon series SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES in the
episodes "Little Big Head Man" and "Mxyzpixilated".
The live action series LOIS AND
CLARK: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN/ABC/1993-97, featured Howie Mandel as
Mxyzptlk who appeared in the episode "Twas the Night Before Mxymas".
During the 4th season of the series SMALLVILLE/WB/2002+, Trent Ford
played the role of a character called "Mikail Mxyzptlk" on the
episode "Jinx." This time around Mxyzptlk (pronounced
'Mixilpitilik') was not from the fifth dimension but rather from The
Balkans. Under the guise of a foreign exchange student sponsored by
LuthorCorp, Mxyzptlk used his mind-control powers to run an illegal
gambling ring at Smallville high school.
