Sarek -
The 102 year-old Vulcan father of first officer Spock featured
on the sci-fi series STAR TREK/NBC/1966-69. Sarek (Mark Lenard)
was first seen on the episode "Journey to Babel," a storyline
which introduced his earthling wife, Amanda (Jane Wyatt) and
found Sarek wounded by a fanatical diplomat while traveling
onboard the starship USS Enterprise. Sarek's injury required
Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), to give his father a much needed transfusion
of Vulcan T-negative blood.
Sarek reappeared on the revival series STAR TREK:
THE NEXT GENERATION/SYN/1987-94 as a much older person, this
time he was 202 years old. Afflicted with a Vulcan version of
Alzheimer's disease, Ambassador Sarek struggled to complete a
treaty with the Legeran's, a negotiations which he had worked
some 93 years to complete. His new earthling wife, Perrin
(Joanna Miles) was introduced on this episode.
Sarek finally died of old age during a November 1991 two-part
episode that featured Spock attempting to unify the Romulan and
Vulcan race.
Sarek's character also appeared in the motion picture spin-offs of the
original STAR TREK series. See also - "Spock" and
