Michael ScofieldMichael Scofield's Tattoo - On the prison drama PRISON BREAK/FOX/2005+ Wentworth Miller plays Michael Scofield whose brother was falsely imprisoned. To rescue his brother and find the real people at fault, Michael robbed a bank so he could be sentenced to Fox River State Penitentiary where his brother was incarcerated. Part of Michael's plan to free his brother involved an elaborate tattoo which he spent two months having tattooed on his upper body. The tattoo contained encrypted blueprint plans for Fox River prison which Michael, a structural engineer, helped design.

Tattoo Artist: That's it! Can I just, ah, you know, look at it for a minute?
Michael Scofield: You're an artist, Sid.
Tattoo Artist: You telling me your just gonna walk out of here and I'm never gonna see it again.
Michael Scofield: There's a good chance of that, yes.
Tattoo Artist: Most guy's start, you know, for the first one they start with something small. Mom. Girlfriend's initials. Some thing like that. Not youuu! You get a full sheet of sleeves all in a couple of months. Takes guys a few years to get the ink you got.
Michael Scofield: I don't have a few years. Wish to hell I did.

-- Dialogue from the first episode

TRIVIA NOTE:  To apply the tattoo, the actor needs four to five hours of preparation time. The stenciled tattoo images last two to three weeks, but if needed, can be removed with solvents. According to director/producer Brett Ratner, "They're very subtle. They're plans within other tattoos. You would have to look really close to even figure out what it is. A lot of the stuff is in code."

"I calculated the drill point coordinates, hid them in my tattoo, and
then projected them back onto the wall. Everything's been worked
out so the image hits the right spot. It's just math."
-- Michael Scofield, Prison Break
