"I'm not normally a religious man, but if you're up there,
 save me, Superman!."
  -- Homer, The Simpsons

Bajoran Renewal Scrolls - The Bajorans, a humanoid race from the planet Bajor, on the sci-fi series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION and DEEP SPACE NINE, utilized scrolls in their ceremonial rituals. During their Gratitude Festival, an annual 26-hour ceremony, the Bajorans write down their problems on paper scrolls and then burn them in a ceremonial fire. To quote Major Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) who once initiated the opening of the festival "As the scrolls burns may our troubles turn to ashes with them."

The Book of Dinosaurs - Sacred text featured on the sitcom DINOSAURS/ABC/1991-94. When the dinosaur residents of the prehistoric city of Pangaea (60,000,003 B.C.) needed guidance they referred to The Book of Dinosaurs. For instance, when a male dinosaur turned the age of 15, he was required to climb to the top of a mountain and howl at the moon. For as their sacred book said "Only by howling do we defeat the dark spirit which turns dinosaur against dinosaur and brings an end to our days on Earth." When a dinosaur reached the age of 72, the book advised that family members hurl their useless senior citizens into the tar pits. When mother-in-law Ethyl Phillips (Florence Stanley) reached hurling age, her Megalasaurus son-in-law Earl Sinclair (Stuart Pankin) gleefully donned a special blue silk tie made for the occasion. And when an infant baby is born it must be taken before the chief elder to be named. When Earl Sinclair took his child to the ceremony, the elder died but not before saying "Aaah, aaah, I'm dying, you idiot." Thus according to tradition, Earl's baby was named. The elder's successor, however, later changed the child's name to "Baby." Once during a time of indecision, the dinosaurs followed a religion based on the Great Potato. It's teaching gave answers to such questions as "What is the nature of dinosaurs? ("Each dinosaur is like a single potato, springing forth from the earth with eyes to see the world around it, and lots of potassium") and "What is our purpose on this earth? ("Our purpose is to serve the Great Potato by giving our troubled questioning minds a rest, confident that the Great Book of the Potato will provide all the answers.")

The Book of G'Quan - Sacred tome filled with religious teachings and prophecies often mentioned on the sci-fi adventure BABYLON 5/SYN/1994-98. G'Quan was the most celebrated religious figure in the history of the Narn homeworld. When The Shadows (an arachnid species), invaded the Narns, G'Quan rallied his people against them (using telepaths called Mindwalkers) to successfully drive the hostiles from their planet. The original writings and teachings of G'Quan (transcribed exactly as they appeared in the original text) were passed down through the generations from mother to daughter. Hologram copies or other manipulations were considered sacrilege. One thousand years later in the year 2258, Narn Ambassador G'Kar (Andreas Katsulas) stationed on space station Babylon 5 copied his own version of The Book of G'Quan which soon became popular with other seekers of truth on Narn. Even the coffee stain ring on page 83 of G'Kar's text (accidentally left by Security Chief Lt. Garibaldi) was religiously copied in the pursuit of preserving the essence of G'Kar's copy. The Book of G'Quan preserved stories of "forces of darkness" that came from the dead world called Z'ha'dum as well as illustrations of the deadly encounter. The following are some excerpts from the G'Quan writings: "And the Spirit of Darkness moved upon the land. It screamed in the dreams of the Mindwalkers; and they fell, destroyed by it to their children and their children's children. Then did the Darkness come to Narn until it was driven out by G'Quan and the last of the surviving Mindwalkers." and "There is a darkness greater than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this foe we can never surrender." and "The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition to be born in moments of revelation. No-one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."  See also -  OATHS & PLEDGES - "Declaration of Principles"

Fabrini Book of the People - A sacred text filled with the knowledge of the Fabrini civilization on the episode No. 65 "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" (Stardate 5476.3) on the sci-fi series STAR TREK/NBC/1966-69. The Fabrini Book of the People was compiled for the passengers onboard the Yonada, a spacecraft built inside an asteroid that journeyed through space to a new "promised world." Upon arrival to their new world, the information in the Fabrini Book of the People would be used to help begin a new civilization.

Scrolls of Ardra - Scrolled documents featured on episode No. 87 "Devil's Due" (Stardate 44474.5) on the science fiction series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/SYN/1987-94. The Scrolls of Ardra contained the Contract of Ardra, an ancient legendary arrangement between the Devil and people of Ventax II wherein the Ventaxians were given a millennium of peace and prosperity in exchange for delivering the population into slavery at the end of the thousand years. According to legend Ardra's return was to be heralded by earthquakes and the shaking of cities. In the year 2367, a con artist (Marta DuBois) appeared to the Ventaxians in the form of Ardra and attempted to convince them she was their legendary Devil, who had returned to take possession of the planet and its people.
